Evacuating Indonesian Citizens in Afghanistan is Winding and Full of Challenges

A number of challenges were faced by pilots and crew members of the Indonesian Air Force during an operation to evacuate Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Kabul, Afghanistan. This was conveyed by one of the pilots, Major Pnb Mulyo Hadi in Jakarta, Saturday (21/8/2021).

The challenges include the growing crowds at Hamid Karzai Airport, Kabul, and the airport in Islamabad, Pakistan, to the control and navigation functions that do not operate optimally at Hamid Karzai Airport after the Taliban took over the government in Afghanistan.
"The main obstacles faced are the latest data from the Hamid Karzai International Airport runway, as well as uncertain conditions around the runway. The escalation of the crowd occurred when the flight crew arrived in Islamabad so the decision from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to delay the pick-up for 1-2 days, " said Major Pnb Mulyo.

However, the flight crew finally got complete data on the condition of Hamid Karzai Airport and the team decided to fly to Kabul on Friday (20/8/2021). The decision was made after the plane obtained landing clearance from authorities in Kabul.
