Novak Djokovic Withdraws from US Open Warm-up Tournament

World number one Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, United States, on August 14-22. He said he needed more time to recover after winning three Grand Slam tournaments and competing at the Tokyo Olympics.

"I need a little more time to recover after a physically exhausting journey from the Australian Open to Tokyo," Djokovic wrote on Twitter Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

The Serbian continued, "Unfortunately, this means I won't be ready to compete in Cincinnati this year, so I'll be shifting my focus to the US Open and spending more time with my family. I can't wait to see you in New York, quick!"

Djokovic, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, is a two-time champion at the Masters 1000 hardcourt tournament held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio. Djokovic has won all three Grand Slam tournaments he has participated in this year and is bidding to become the first person to win all four Grand Slams and one Olympic gold in a calendar year.
