Time is a very precious commodity to everyone. There is always never enough time. Therefore, if you are asking potential audiences to commit time to listening to you, then the information or content must be valuable. Valuable information may come in various forms, such as: Instructional, educational, or recreational.

Having a podcast is a time-efficient way of communicating with your listeners. It can also be an important tool in converting listeners to customers. People can listen to a podcast while cooking, cleaning, driving, walking, or even doing the laundry. Taking all these things into consideration will help you to determine the appropriate length of your podcast. For most people just starting out, an appropriate length should be about twenty minutes.

Shorter podcasts are more readily consumed. If you ask for too much time and deliver too little value, your audience will stop listening. Therefore, you should try to make the most of your audience's time. Remember, there are over 1,000,000 podcasts out there (and increasing every day as people, just like you, start a new podcast). Your target audience must decide if they want to listen to your podcast over the many others choices available to them.

Identifying a niche or creating a profile of your target audience will help to determine the appropriate length of your podcast. However, there is no set formula to use when determining this. Also, the more episodes you produce per week should result in a shorter podcast. If you produce only one episode per week, a podcast length of 40 to 60 minutes is acceptable. itsaboutdog  if you produce only one per month, you could probably get away with longer podcast episodes. Be aware though, this is only achievable if the listener finds value in your content. Ultimately the aim should be to create and deliver great content within a reasonable amount of time.

Statistics never lie.

Statistics have shown that the more episodes you publish in one week - the shorter your podcast should be. This is where the time frame of about 20 minutes per episode would apply. If you publish 3 to 5 episodes per week, you are asking for a huge time commitment from your listeners. You must have really interesting content and be able to deliver it quickly.

The year 2020 saw a rising popularity of podcasts, with over a 50% increase in listeners! Therefore, your chances of starting a successful podcast are higher now than ever before. With a whopping increase of 54% of monthly podcast listeners; you can capitalize on this trend.

Popular or well-known podcasts record an average time of approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Some of the more popular podcasts sometimes going over one hour. The caveat in this is the popularity of the person. They usually have huge name recognition and ready-made audience credibility.

When you are starting out, you do not have that type of recognition (yet). So, it is relatively prudent to design your podcast to be less than 20 minutes or so and not more than 45 minutes in length.

Again, there are several factors that will help to determine whether listeners will invest this much time to listen to your podcast. For example, their length of commute while driving. Do not worry too much about whether your episodes are too short. Just make sure they are not too long for your audience. As you continue podcasting, feedback from your customers will tell you the ideal length for your listening audience.
