FAQs About the Greater New York Dental Meeting

If you approach your dentist with a teeth alignment problem you want resolved, it is likely that one of the courses of treatment they will put you on is that which involves the wearing of dental braces. Dental braces are devices that you put on your (somewhat misaligned teeth) on a regular basis, so as to correct the teeth misalignment problems that may be manifest. Some of the braces are metallic and highly conspicuous, those being those that are termed as 'traditional' dental braces, but there are some that are invisible and discreet.

What are termed as teeth alignment problems to be treated through the use of dental braces, of course, vary greatly. The spectrum encompasses all sorts of problems, from those that have redondo beach dentist shown to cause slight chewing/speech difficulties, to those that, while not presenting such practical difficulties, put the person on whom they are manifest at a considerable aesthetic disadvantage.

So, ultimately, what could drive you to see your dentist (who in turn puts you on a treatment involving the use of dental braces) could be anything from the desire to resolve practical difficulties that you may be facing due to your teeth alignment problems, to a desire to increase your aesthetic appeal.
It is when you are about to start using the dental braces then, that you could find yourself wondering as to how, exactly, they work in correcting teeth misalignment problems.

And in order to understand how dental braces work in resolving teeth misalignment problems, it would be worth giving ourselves a little background into the whole teeth alignment problem. This is where, as it turns out, the problem ultimately emanates from the way the teeth emerge out of the skeletal structure that support them - these being what are termed as jawbones, or maxilla in technical language. There are certain degrees of protrusion from these skeletal structures that are considered normal; so that if your teeth emerge at those angles, and they happen to be teeth of a normal size, you are likely to end up looking okay. Unfortunately, any deviation, even the slightest one, from these acceptable degrees of teeth protrusion can cause problems - ranging from aesthetic problems (where the deviation is small) to rather serious chewing and speech problems (especially where the deviation is major).

Now the major deviations in teeth angle of protrusion often call for surgical intervention, if they are to be corrected.

But the minor deviations, the sort that causes aesthetic difficulties (and perhaps some low level chewing/speech difficulties) are addressed through the use of dental braces. What the braces do is to apply a slightly 'tug' force, towards the center of the mouth or way from the center of the mouth depending on the nature of the problem. The objective, in the longer run, is to 'pull' the misaligned teeth into the desirable angles of protrusion and therefore give the patient a perfect teeth alignment.
