8 Things to Check When Hiring a Car Transport Company

There are so many different companies offering car shipping, it can be hard to know which one to choose. It can be even harder to know whether or not you’re getting the best deal available on that company’s services! This article will outline 8 things you should check when hiring a car transport company, so you can make sure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck when it comes to moving your vehicle across state lines!

1) Are they insured?

A car shipping company can’t always be responsible for damage caused by their negligence, so make sure they have insurance. The best way to check is ask to see it in writing. And be sure that you are covered if anything happens during transport and even after cost to ship car it has arrived at its destination.

2) They have all necessary certifications

Regulations vary from state to state and even from country to country, so it’s important that you select a car transport company that’s authorized by both your local government and in any countries you may be transporting your vehicle through. Before making any arrangements, ask for proof of necessary documentation and permits. A legitimate car shipping company will provide it upon request.

3) Do they provide door-to-door services?

Get yourself an estimate from at least 3-4 car shipping companies and make sure they provide door-to-door services. Most of them do but it is always good to check. They might charge more, but if they provide better service, that might be worth it. You can always compare prices later as well.

4) What is the turnaround time?

There are many reasons why you may need your car moved quickly. If you’re planning a cross-country trip, or in an emergency situation where time is of the essence, ask about how fast they can move your vehicle. A reputable company will get your car moving within 24 hours.

5) What are their service charges like?

Have they clearly outlined their charges? Do they have anything else hidden like fuel surcharges, taxes or credit card fees? Don’t be afraid to ask. If you’re not sure whether something is included in their service charge, ask! You have every right to know what you’re paying for and how much you’ll pay at each stage of your relocation process.

6) How long have they been in business?

Although you don’t want to be hiring someone who just started, it’s not always easy to tell how long a company has been in business by looking at their website. By looking on other sites (like Google), you can usually get an idea of how long they’ve been around. Obviously, companies that have been around for longer are going to be more trustworthy than those that just popped up out of nowhere.

7) Can I get proof of insurance?

All licensed car transporters should have proof of insurance readily available upon request. The best way to make sure you’re protected is by asking for an in-writing certificate that shows your vehicle is insured up to your state’s required minimum amount (usually $1 million).

8) Is it a good idea to use them internationally?

If you’re looking to ship your car internationally, look for a company that specializes in international transport. Many U.S.-based companies are used to transporting cars only within their own borders, but if you live in New York and want your car delivered from California, it might not be best to trust them with such an important delivery. Also look for an international shipping company with plenty of experience so that you know they can get your vehicle from point A to point B with as little trouble as possible.
