It is big business that drives what is available to buy, markets products to affect what we "require" to enhance our way of life, chooses how those things are produced, the length of time an effective life the products have, what we need to run our cars and trucks and houses. Industry contaminates the atmosphere by producing numerous things for us to buy. Huge organization drives our economy and affects politicians. Big service has a beneficial interest in being enabled to continue their pollution of the world, to allow them to continue to produce their products cheaply and pay their executives outrageous wages.

I am even fairly encouraged that human activity of the past 200 years [before then there were too few of us to actually have any impact] is enough to be a chauffeur of further change.

Catastrophe that genuine is what makes apocalyptic melodramas so interesting. Zombie invasion definitely is quite far out there in the world of possibility. But weaponized illness isn't.
