Banner advertising; when one hears of it in today's age usually is referred to as an online web banner. It is a form of advertising that many would argue is useless as critics would claim that no one even looks at them anymore and even refer to it as "banner blindness". This may be true in some specific industries such as internet marketing where the people who participate in that community are many times jaded by the amount of advertising they are exposed to but even this skeptical crowd will let their guard down when the right message is presented to them! This is what many people forget, that it is the marketing message that's most important, not just the medium in which it is presented.
Using the internet is just that, another medium to present your message to attract customers into your doors. Online banners are virtual billboards and one of its main benefits as well as anything else you do online is in the ability to be able to directly track actions and results that happen on your website. Direct response marketing is a form of advertising where your results can be attributed to the exact advertising campaign that actually achieved the results and this is why many "so called pundits" would argue any other form of advertising such as branding is useless. What about the millions of businesses that own a physical storefront? Shouldn't they create an attractive sign, hopefully one that has a marketing message, to bring in walk-in customers in addition to promoting themselves heavily online? For a traditional brick and mortar business or more specifically a local business, advertising physically in ones neighborhood cannot be ignored. Yes, it's very important to have a strong web presence as well but one cannot discount the power of walk in traffic. This can be achieved with a properly crafted message on a simple advertising banner which can attract people right outside the doors of your business!
One would not think of opening a business without at least having a sign to identify it right outside your door! Seems common sense but one would be surprised how little is talked anymore about the traditional business sign as well as the power of using billboards and vinyl banners. What is any advertisements simple purpose? To notify consumers of your product or service and present reasons why they should do business with you. Working on all your advertising messages, online and offline is your main job no matter what business you run because if you can't attract customers to even look at your stuff, there is no reason to be in business at all!
Crafting that right message is another topic that deserves many days, possibly even years of discussion. What is important is to learn about your customer and what they want. Put together messages that would be appealing to them and test voraciously until you find the right combination of images and words that connect with your market. Using online banners and advertising is the most cost effective way to achieve this. Once you get the message right, don't be hesitant to put your advertising offline as well. You'll find that doing this is actually a lot less competitive since it's not the flavor of the month technique. Here's one important reason you'd want to consider this.
Baby boomers are still and will remain to be for some time a major force in buying power. Even though many of them embrace technology, especially since one cannot refute the fact that many times, better pricing can be obtained online. People still want to be lured into seeing something or someone in person. This applies to anyone, no matter what their age. Why not make it even more appealing with a nice looking full color vinyl banner outside your storefront.
