Types Of Electrical Wiring, Rules For Laying Cables And Wires

Most people will find it easy to replace the old electrical wiring in the apartment on their own or lay a new one in a newly built private house, garage or other structure.

In order for the self-made wiring to be safe, to serve reliably, for a long time, it is necessary to carry it out in accordance with the rules and regulations of electrical installation.

Basic rules for wiring

  • All electrical repair and electrical installation work begins with de-energizing the line on which the work will be performed. To do this, turn off the corresponding machine or unscrew the safety plug. To work under voltage, you need to be a professional electrician and have a special permit.
  • All junction boxes where wires (cables) are connected must be located in accessible places; it is forbidden to cover them up or cover them with a false ceiling.
  • Metal parts of outlets, bare wires, under voltage must be covered and securely insulated. If necessary, cover up and shorten the electrical cable, be sure to fold back its ends in the soldering (distribution, switch-on) box.
  • It is forbidden to lay wires and cables in any way directly on walls, ceilings made of wood (or other combustible material). In such cases, it is necessary to carry out the wiring in metal hoses or pipes.
  • Through the walls, the cable is laid in pipes, which are sealed with mortar.
  • According to European standards, the sockets are located 30 cm above the floor. The switches are installed near the doors at a height of 90 cm, on the side of the door handles.
  • Cables are laid at least 15 - 20 cm from the ceiling.
  • The distance from the wiring route to the window, door slope or corner of the room must be at least 10 cm.
  • It is allowed to power no more than 4 sockets in parallel from one outlet.
  • It is recommended to sketch with bindings the exact diagram of the passage of the wiring lines, so as not to accidentally damage it during the repair process.
  • Junction boxes must be located above the switches, under the ceiling, at the level of the cable routing.
  • Ceiling, load-bearing walls and columns are not allowed to be channeled!
  • For the installation of switches and sockets in toilets, bathrooms and other rooms with high humidity, there are separate rules that must be followed, more details about them on the video.
