Their Beautiful, Warm Home For One™

Medieval may sound intimidating with visions of nobility, war, castles and hard living, but this home design is actually one of the most inspiring and interesting to have. The history of the medieval times explains the style used for homes that applying this theme is like traveling back in time. It is said that medieval design is full of portable and functional objects because of the constant moving of people during the war times. It is also a flexible home theme because of the concept of sharing a home with strangers who were fleeing from war-torn areas. It is important to keep these colors in mind when planning to decorate a room in your house in a medieval theme. If the room you want to decorate in has little natural light this is the prefect idea for you. To liven up this room’s interior use colors like forest green, vibrant red, midnight blue, and canary yellow as your accent colors. Use a light color as your main color so that more light will be reflected and your room will feel larger. The walls can be designed in such a way that light will be reflected and the areas that appear a bit dingy will look more vivid. Use a gray paint on a white wall but instead of the usual paintbrush, make use of a paint sponge and press the gray tinge lightly. This gives a stone-look to the walls, a mark of medieval homes. Quite a meticulous task but totally worth it for improving the look of the walls and the entire room. In decorating trinkets and accessories, the more colorful, the better. Don’t overdo your knickknacks though. Remember that mobility was an essential factor during medieval times and having too many blue paper cleaning roll things was not practical. When you are choosing an area rug for the room, think about the textures that were used in medieval days. This will help you select a theme appropriate area rug. Fabrics that were commonly used were canvas and velvet. Often silk was used by the wealthy as well. Whatever fabric was used was always very brightly colored. In your room this will be of great importance because chances are you will not have the traditional stone flooring that would commonly be found in the time period. An area rug can be used to cover visible flooring to blend the floor into your design. If you do go to the expense of laying tile flooring you feet will appreciate the protection an area rug offers against cold. Enjoy the beauty your home gets with this design. Reliving the medieval period is not all about the hard times. I’m sure there are more things people were grateful for that time. Their beautiful, warm home for one. Our best hint for Home Decorating, is to use area rugs - and the solid color rugs will suit any modern furnishings.
