Nests For Easter - A Simple Dinosaur Themed Easter Treat

As far as palaeontologists can tell from the fossil record, all dinosaurs were egg layers. Many slot gacor had different strategies related to nesting and indeed, parental care. To help young people understand a little more about how dinosaurs, some of which were the length of a football pitch nested and looked after their young, we have created a simple and fun chocolate dinosaur nest recipe for children to follow.

A number of dinosaur nesting sites are known. Extensive remains of dinosaur nesting colonies have been discovered in South America, the western United States and India. Some types of dinosaur, all of them herbivores nested in colonies, rather like types of sea-bird such as gannets do today. Scientists believe that many plant-eating dinosaurs such as the long-necked Sauropod Saltasaurus and the Ornithopod Maiasaura lived in large herds. These animals may have migrated year after year to favoured nesting sites and as a result large numbers of eggs and the fossils of young dinosaurs have been found together. Dinosaurs such as the seven metre long Maiasaura have left us fossil evidence that they cared for the eggs and their hatchlings. The Maiasaura nesting site, known as "egg mountain" because of the great numbers of fossils found, was located in what we now know as Montana (western United States). The site was discovered in 1978 by Robert Makela and John Horner in the badlands of Montana. Fossils of eggs, dinosaur nests, babies, juveniles and adult Maiasaura have been found at this location.

Scientific study of this site, led to some startling discoveries. Many of the baby dinosaurs found were too large to be newly hatched but were evidently still living in the nests. The leg bones of these babies were not fully formed so they could not move very far. Despite this their teeth showed signs of wear. The researchers concluded that the babies were being fed at the nest. The adult Maiasaura were showing parental care behaviour.
