An insider told me "The .223 costs about 3.99 a box so I bought 4 boxes to be thrifty, but when I began shooting it at the range, the bolt of my Rem. 700 would get stuck and not be able to open. When I took it in, the smith said there was a bur in the chamber (it was a used gun), but now that that's fixed, it is still safe to shoot the rest of that ammo in the gun. I've heard things about Wolf Ammunition being bad for barrels and other parts. For those who don't know what it is, it is dirt cheap steel cased ammo made in Russia in .223, 7.62X39 and 9mm?"

"It's junk. It's cheap, and you get what you pay for. I could not get any of it to cycle in my HK compact .45, or my Colt 1911! Other people who I have talked to who bought it for their SKS rifles did not get consistent accuracy."

"Good reliable, fairly inexpensive ammo. Get the Remington ammo from Wal-Mart in the yellow box with black writing on it. "UMC"! The .223 ammo I buy .223 at Wal-Mart for my M-4 andwinchester ammo it is less than $4.50 a box after tax. Remember "Remington UMC". I buy their .45 ball in bulk and .223 by the box."

"In the past Wolf ammo was pretty bad on quality, though a few years ago I heard it had gotten better and I bought some, didn't have a problem. Since then I have fired several thousand rounds of .45 ACP, .223 and 7.62X39 and have not had a problem. Yes, UMC is excellent ammo as well. The .45 ACP ball is what I carry in my 1911. (I am not too big on hollow points)."

"I was at the Tacoma Bulls eye gun range and was using wolf ammo and my HK USP .45 full sized jammed. It jammed so bad that I actually needed one of the gunsmiths to get it out. He just smacked the handle real hard with his hand while holding the slid and 2-3 hits later it finally ejected. The HK USP 45 is one of the best handguns ever made and can handle all ammo...except wolf that is."

"Upon inspection of the steel casing I could see a total failure of the casing with a top to bottom split on it. I avoid this ammo at all cost. Go to Wal-Mart and by American Eagle ammo. It's cheap and American made and reliable. Remember...you get what you pay for with Ammo. Don't risk your life to save a buck."

"I bought some boxes of their 7.5x55mm Swiss for my K31. Seems to work just fine. Also Boxer primed and reloadable. But then I think I've heard it was manufactured for Wolf somewhere in the former Yugoslavia. So they may be trying to improve their quality. I've used all 3 types of Wolf Ammo. Shot over 500 rounds of .45 through my Glock 30 in a week with only 1 jam. Several hundred rounds of 7.62mm with my SKS as well with no big issues.
