How to Keep Your Hot Tub in Perfect Condition

Whether you own a hot tub for relaxation or as a way to entertain guests, it’s essential to keep your spa in good condition. Not only will this help to extend the life of your spa and save you time and money, but it’ll also ensure a fun and relaxing experience for everyone who visits!

How to Keep Your Hot Tub in Perfect Condition
The first step in keeping your hot tub in excellent condition is to ensure you’re regularly using the right products. This can be as simple as changing your water, but you should also check the levels of sanitizer, alkalinity and pH. If the levels are too low or too high, you’ll need to add chemicals to bring them back into balance.

Use a sanitizer that is suitable for your particular water system, such as liquid chlorine or tablets, bromine, salt or Baquacil. These products will kill off any bacteria in the water and keep it healthy.

Rinse yourself and your guests before hopping in the tub. Often people forget to rinse themselves before getting in, but it can have a huge impact on how clean your hot tub is. Lotions, perfumes, bath oils and sweat can leave behind a residue that can make your water appear cloudy and unappealing.

Change your water every 3-4 months (if you have a chlorine system) or once a year (if you have a salt system). This will help to keep the water fresh and free from dirt and debris.

Adjust pH and total alkalinity when required – You should test your water at least once a month or whenever you think it’s in need of treatment. By testing the water, you’ll be able to spot any issues quickly and easily.

Cover the hot tub when not in use – Not only does this stop the water from becoming too warm, but it can help to reduce your energy costs. This also stops debris from entering the water and causing damage to your equipment, and it helps keep bugs and animals out.

Ensure the filter is clean and working properly - This should be done at least once a week. To do this, spray your filter with a cleaning solution and then let it sit for fifteen minutes before rinsing thoroughly. It’s a great idea to get your filter professionally cleaned at least once a year, as this will help to prevent the build-up of grime and bacteria on it.

Avoid soap-based cleaners and harsh detergents – These can clog your drains and cause a build up of harmful chemicals in the water. They can also be too strong for the equipment that is inside your hot tub, so always remember to avoid using these products.

Shock your tub when needed – When the level of impurities in your water becomes too high and it starts to look cloudy or discoloured, you’ll need to shock it. This will remove the impurities and get rid of any odors, as well as making it easier to rebalance your water.
