Achieving goals requires constant hard work and dedication. It becomes necessary to view every obstacle as a challenge and become resilient. Nobody becomes successful overnight. Days and nights tough grind, self-belief, and struggling are required. Today’s motivational story is about Hima Das. She is an Indian sprinter. She is also the youngest athlete to win a gold medal in the women’s 400-meter event at the IAAF World U-20 Championships held at Tampere, Finland. Success did not come to her easy. She had to face many challenges to reach her goal.

Early Life

Hima Das lived with her parents and four older siblings in Kandhulimari village. The village is five kilometers from Dhing town and lies in Central Assam. Her father worked as a rice-growing farmer, and the family had many financial issues. Since childhood, Hima was interested in sports and was good at it. Although choosing a career in sports did not seem ideal to many, considering her financial background. But she did not give up on her dreams.

Training For Sprinting

Initially, Hima Das wanted to become a professional football player. But football for girls. Unfortunately, football for girls has not developed professionally well yet. Hima Das was a student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Her physical education teacher, Mr. Haque saw potential in her and started training her for sprinting instead. He prepared Hima Das for-district level races.

Winning District-Level Races

Hima Das participated in 100 and 200 meters district-level races Hima Das and won gold medals in both. Hima won the race without any proper training equipment or good running shoes. This showed her true capability to everyone around her. Her parents could not support her career on a financial level. Hima wanted training at a professional level, and for that, she consulted Mr. Nipon Das, an athletics coach from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare. He promised to train her professionally and bear all the expenses.

Professional Training

Hima Das was asked to move out of her hometown to Guwahati for the training. She had to convince her parents. She promised to make them proud. Leaving everyone behind was difficult for her as well. It was not easy for Hima to adjust to the urban lifestyle. But her coach constantly supported and motivated her. He treated Hima Das as her daughter. Gold Medal At World Under-20 Track and Field Championships

Hima Das performed at various state and national level competitions. With every race, her sprinting time improved. Her hard work paid off when Hima was selected to compete in the 2018 World U-20 Championships representing India. Hima went to Finland with full determination to achieve her goal. She had worked very hard and was fully prepared. She took part in a 400 meters race with seven other competitors. Hima became the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold medal at the World Under-20 Track and Field Championships. She completed her track in 51.13 seconds.
