What Is Link Building?

This is SEO 101 stuff. Having published our list of SEO statistics (and noindexed the page), we were almost ready to do some outreach and build some links. Column A: The URL of the statistics page (where we found the statistic). If the statistic was outdated, we found and added a more recent one. Our idea here was to personalize emails based on the statistic referenced by each prospect. And we’re not talking about anything incredibly complicated here. The goal here is to establish regular communication with your target site before soliciting them for a guest opportunity. People don’t consume lists of statistics like they would a regular blog post. In retrospect, something like the Historical Data Patent could be used to easily spot paid links in addition to other paid link signals. Write the article first, and then start stealing those links. You can find an article on your chosen topic, then offer to add your quote and link.

You will notice I have linked to multiple pages on this site over the course of this article. Five years ago, that might have been the case, but outreach is getting harder and more people are asking for money or something else in return. Wherever this was the case, we scoured the web for an updated statistic. Column G: The source of the new statistic. In this form, a journalist, publisher, or a blogger creates a link back to your website from a credible source (publication or a well-established blog). For example, when a visitor is reading an informative blog and sees a link linking back to your website and finds the topic to be appropriate for their research, they could hit the link and be directed to your site. Also referred to as inbound links, these are links that point from one website to another, indicating a vote of confidence from the linking site.

The first step was to deduplicate URLs from the same domain since websites could potentially be linking to more than one statistics page. To do this, we grouped the statistics into categories and added jump links to the introduction. The reality of statistics pages is that it’s tough to make one that stands out from http://jeffreykacp313.lowescouponn.com/the-urban-dictionary-of-adve... the crowd. However, you need to make sure you’re using the right tools in the right way in order for them to be truly effective. For that reason, we needed to make our post organized and easy to digest. Then, be sure they agree to include a link in the post back to your own website. Indeed, the first example below, from Doghouse Diaries, is one of the most widely linked to maps in this post. So when you reach out to these authors or site owners, come up with a compliment about their content, and reference what they’re doing right first.

The first three personalization fields were simple enough as we already had this information in our spreadsheet. And by the way, that simple surname map picked up 157 referring domains. That would have brought our referring domains count to 41, which is an 8.7% conversion rate. If our main backlinks would have Yoast SEO Premium as an anchor, that will ring some alarm bells at Google. It’s a little like guest posting and providing resources via HARO, but as a blend of the two-you’re providing a source of information that someone else will translate into content for their site. If we couldn’t find the source or realized that it was outdated, we looked for an updated one. Vlad, one of our team members, handled this process. Directories that require submissions to go through an approval process can send positive signals to search engines that you are a legitimate business. There are a lot of different citation services that exist, but besides sites that are ranking in your market, these are the ones you may want to start with for the US.
