Yamaha Focuses on Extending Quartararo's Contract For Next Season

Fabio Quartararo won the 2021 MotoGP world title with Yamaha in his first year in the factory team. However, the French rider opened up opportunities for other manufacturers to change teams.

The backdrop is the performance of the YZR-M1 racing bike. According to Quartararo and available data, the Yamaha M1 has the lowest top speed among other manufacturers.

Quartararo said he asked Yamaha to increase the YZR-M1's top speed this season. However, the improvements made are only slightly and the top speed is still the same.

The defending world champion admitted that he did not close the door to other manufacturers who had more attractive offers. This can happen if it turns out that M1 is far from competitive this season. Nevertheless, Yamaha is confident that it can keep Quartararo for the 2023 season.
