An official announcement is expected shortly, as Real Madrid have wrapped up a deal for Aurelien Tchouameni to wear white next season.

An agreement between Los Blancos and Monaco is complete and the midfielder will become the club's second signing ahead of the new campaign, following Antonio Rudiger.

Tchouameni has been a wanted man and the 22-year-old France international is understood to have turned down advances from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG, in particular, kept trying to secure the young midfielder until the last minute, but Real Madrid have managed to pull it off and have their man.

Real Madrid build for the future with Tchouameni's transfer

The signing is a strategic one with a view to the future as the club is well aware that the midfield needs revitalising before it is too late.

The historic and hugely successful trio of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos could gradually make way for the triumvirate of the years ahead in Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde and Tchouameni.

While, like Camavinga, Tchouameni is viewed as a key piece for the future, he will also be expected to contribute straight away, as he is a full France international.

With the interest from other clubs, this is quite the coup for Los Blancos, who have landed one of the top-rated young players on the continent. Key to getting the deal done was the player's own desire to join Real Madrid, where Carlo Ancelotti - who even called the player - will be delighted to have him.

Real Madrid appear to have won the battle to sign highly-rated France star Aurelien Tchouameni following reports the Champions League winners have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the midfielder.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest young talents in Europe and was believed to be the subject of interest from Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side look set to secure the Monaco ace’s signature after the Athletic revealed Los Blancos have agreed a package worth in excess of €100 million.

The two teams are now attempting to conclude the necessary paperwork and complete the regulatory procedures prior to making any official announcement.

According to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG were willing to offer more to recruit his services but bowed out of the running at the weekend to leave Real clear to work on a contract that will run until 2027.

Tchouameni was an integral part of Monaco’s midfield last term, making 35 league appearances as the club finished third in Ligue 1. He also chipped in with three goals and two assists as well as featuring a further 11 times in European competitions.

Regarded as a tenacious figure with the ability and energy to operate in a box-to-box capacity, Tchouameni’s displays inevitably caught the attention of Didier Deschamps and led to him gaining a regular spot in the France squad. The youngster made his senior debut for Les Bleus back in September 2021 and already has 10 caps for his country as he continues his impressive ascent up the football ladder.

Tchouameni will leave Monaco after 95 appearances for the side from the Principality having joined them from his boyhood club, Bordeaux in January 2020 :

Real Madrid have agreed a €100m (£85.3m) deal to sign the defensive midfielder Aurelién Tchouaméni from Monaco. The European champions are to pay a guaranteed €80m for the 22-year-old with the rest in add-ons.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are among other teams who pursued the France international. Jürgen Klopp called Tchouaméni in the hope of convincing him to move to Anfield but the player was interested only in Madrid. PSG walked away from negotiations last Friday on that basis, having been ready to pay the highest fee with a guaranteed €100m.
