Researchers Find Which Parts of the Brain Are Active When Women Have Sexual Activities

A scientific study published on Monday (12/20/2021) has identified a region of the brain associated with touch in the female genitalia.

The study involved clitoral stimulation of 20 women aged 18 to 45 years, while researchers analyzed the results of brain scans of study participants using fMRI.

Here, study participants use small objects specifically for research. Objects serve to stimulate women.

According to Medical Xpress reports, they were stimulated for 10 seconds 8 times, interspersed with 10 seconds of rest.

The imaging results show that the somatosensory cortex in the brain is active during this female genital stimulation. But its location varied in each woman tested.

But researchers determined the 10 most active points in the brain during stimulation in each woman, and measured the thickness of those areas.

"We found an association between the frequency of sexual activity and the thickness of the brain sections for the genital areas that we mapped individually," explains study author Christine Heim.

So, the more sexual activity, the thicker the region in the brain. Sexual activity here does not mean having to have sex. Stimulating the genital area is also included in sexual activity.
