Neymar's stance on sensational Newcastle transfer as race heats up for PSG star

Following a huge upturn in form at the end of the 2021/22 season, Eddie Howe's Tyneside revolution is in full swing with Newcastle now eyeing a shock move for one of football's best talents

Neymar is reportedly dead against joining Newcastle United in the summer transfer window as the race heats up for the PSG star.

PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi has cast doubt over the future of the Brazilian international, 30, after insisting the Ligue 1 champions are not interested in signing any more "flashy, bling-bling" players. Neymar arrived in 2017 for a world-record £200m fee, following his dazzling displays at Barcelona, but is still yet to help the Parisians to a first elusive Champions League crown.

The tricky forward still has three years remaining on his current deal at PSG but has been linked with a mega-money switch elsewhere as the club move in a different direction.

One stumbling block, though, would be his mammoth wages. Neymar is reportedly on a staggering £1.2million-a-week, according to the Mirror, pricing him out of a move to virtually every other club.

However, the Sun report Neymar is an outlandish target for Newcastle as Eddie Howe targets an unlikely push for Europe. Despite taking over the club in the relegation zone, the rejuvenated Magpies finished the 2021/22 season in a respectable 11th and Howe is keen to push ahead with the Saudi-backed Tyneside revolution.

Boasting one of the richest owners in world football, the Toon are said to be one of the few teams willing to fund his eye-watering wages, although French outlet L'Equipe state Neymar is dead against joining the northeast side.

Reports in Spain also suggest Newcastle face competition from Serie A giants Juventus with boss Massimiliano Allegri a huge fan. Former club Barcelona are unable to afford his jaw-dropping salary.

Asked about Neymar's potential departed by Marca, Al-Khelaifi said on Wednesday (June 22): "Some will come and others will go, but these are private negotiations."

Neymar moans about 'unhappy' life as he can't celebrate birthdays after a defeat

PSG and Brazil star Neymar expressed his frustration at not being able to 'celebrate birthdays' after losses and complained about the 'unhappy life' of being a professional footballer

Neymar has complained about the ‘unhappy life’ of a professional footballer after 'not being able to celebrate birthdays'.

The 30-year-old Paris Saint Germain star has suffered criticism during his spell in France over his perceived lack of commitment to playing football. He has made just 92 league appearances for the French giants after five seasons, and his lively off-field lifestyle has seen fans and media complain about his constant absence.

But it appears the Brazilian has had enough of the criticism, taking to Twitter on Saturday to moan about the difficulties of being an elite-level athlete and not being allowed to enjoy himself.

He tweeted: “[After a loss] You can't celebrate your grandma's, son's, wife's birthday, and especially yours. Being an athlete is not easy, ‘you can only be happy after your career ends, how crazy’”

It comes after reports claimed the former Barcelona forward is set to retire from international football. Real Madrid winger and national teammate Rodrygo revealed Neymar had “promised him” his famous no.10 shirt ahead of his stepping down.

Rodrygo told PodPah: "Neymar said: 'I'm already leaving the national team and 10 is yours'. I didn't even know what to say to him.

“I was embarrassed, I giggled and didn't even know what to say properly. I told him that he has to play some more, that I didn't want to now and stuff. And then he had a laugh.”

Neymar is one of Brazil’s most successful footballers with 74 goals in 119 caps despite never delivering a major trophy for his nation. He is expected to play at the World Cup in Qatar later this year in what could be his last major tournament for the Selecao.
