Mbappe substituted out vs Denmark due to left knee injury

Kylian Mbappe was forced to leave France's opening Nations League group match against Denmark at the Stade de France due to injury.

After completing a pass to Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni before the conclusion of the first half, the Paris Saint-Germain striker remained on the ground in pain.

The striker, who was wanted by Real Madrid before signing a new deal to stay in Paris until 2025, was seen touching his left knee before being treated by French doctors on the pitch.

Although he managed to walk off the field and head to the dressing room on his own power, he didn't return for the second half, with Christopher Nkunku taking his place.

Three more Nations matches for France

Mbappe had looked lively throughout the opening half, starting on the left flank and linking up well with Karim Benzema.

The duo had combined in what they thought was the opening goal of the match, only for the Real Madrid man's effort to be ruled offside.

Following his exit from Friday's match, there are now doubts as to Mbappe's status for France's upcoming Nations League group matches.

Les Bleus will take on Croatia on two occasions and Austria once, with all eyes now on whether Mbappe will be available.

Karim Benzema's opening strike wasn't enough for France as Denmark came from behind to beat the World Cup and Nations League holders 2-1 on Friday night.

Neither side was able to open the scoring in the opening frame, with the Real Madrid striker coming the closest. Kylian Mbappe, who was forced to leave at half time due to a left knee injury, linked up well with Benzema, who fired home, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

France eventually found themselves ahead in the 51st minute, with Mbappe's replacement, Christopher Nkunku, playing a key role. An improvised flick from the Leipzig forward found Benzema, who calmly slotted past Kasper Schmeichel to the delight of the home fans.

The lead didn't last long however. Denmark's press resulted in a French mistake on the left flank, and second half substitute Andreas Cornelius fired home to level the score.

With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Denmark managed to cap off their night with a stunning winner in the 88th minute :

Joakim Maehle found Cornelius with a hopeful ball, and the striker managed to hold off a William Saliba challenge before sending a thundering shot past Hugo Lloris.

It proved to be the winner, with Denmark starting their National League campaign in style with a superb win at the Stade de France.
