Juan Mata leaves Manchester United and Free Transfer

Juan Mata is rumored to be leaving Manchester United (MU) on a free transfer at the end of June.

The 33-year-old has made 277 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Chelsea in mid-2013-14. He contributed 51 goals and 47 assists.

Mata made just four appearances for United during the 2021/2022 season, though, featuring twice in the Champions League, once in the EFL Cup and once in the FA Cup.

The Spaniard's contract with Manchester United will expire at the end of June. According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Mata will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Mata, who has been linked with the La Liga club, has not played a minute in the Premier League this season.

Apart from Juan Mata, Paul Pogba is another United player who could leave on a free transfer this summer. However, the French national team player allegedly has not made a decision about his future.

Juan Mata already has plans after hanging up his boots. He seems to be pursuing a career as a coach.

Mata joined Manchester United from Chelsea in January 2014. The former Valencia player was bought for 44.7 million euros.

Mata extended his contract at United last season. Many believe that the 2021/2022 season will be Mata's last season with Manchester United. He will likely hang up his boots.

Mata said he wanted to be a football club coach after retiring. That's why he's been taking coaching courses from now on.

"I've started several courses," said Mata as reported by the Manchester Evening News. "I'm taking a management course as well as coaching."

The former Spain international said it was very important for footballers to think about their next plans after retiring.

"It's nice to do things in your downtime, and I think it's important for footballers to think about what to do next."

"Of course, I want to play as long as I can because there is no better feeling than playing football. However, you have to be ready for what is to come and do something."
