Roman Abramovich has no intention of selling Chelsea

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has yet to sell his club despite relinquishing control of the Blues, according to British media reports, The Sun, Sunday (27/2/2022).

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine under President Vladimir Putin's orders, Abramovich's future at Chelsea suddenly plunged into uncertainty amid fears of financial sanctions.

Abramovich then announced that he was handing over the management of the club to the Chelsea charitable foundation, with the British government being asked to freeze the assets of the 55-year-old Russian businessman.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fans asked for clarity on Abramovich's statement.

The Sun reports that Abramovich is still the owner of last season's Champions League winners and has no intention of selling the club.

The report adds that Abramovich also does not expect to be subject to any sanctions and will still help the club to fund future transfers if that persists.

In the Roman Abramovich era, Chelsea have amassed 19 major trophies since 2003 and the announcement comes less than 24 hours before the Blues face Liverpool in the 2021/2022 Carabao Cup final.

Roman Abramovich has released a club statement amid uncertainty surrounding the club's future following Russia's attempted invasion of Ukraine. The billionaire from Russia is considered to have close ties to Russian president Vladmir Putin.
