Upon initially receiving braces

The initial few days are always the most challenging when making a significant life change. You should stick to soft meals at first after getting braces because your mouth will be sore for a few days after your first session. Any food that is easy to chew is always a good choice.

Here are a few suggestions on what to eat after receiving braces (and throughout treatment):

  • Honey oats
  • Eggs
  • Hearty soups
  • Pasta
  • Fish and shellfish
  • Gently cooked veggies
  • Potatoes mashed
  • Mild cheeses
  • Fresh bananas
  • Yeast product

While it is perfectly acceptable to eat certain "safe" foods while undergoing treatment, you may experience some mild sensitivity in the early stages. When you have dental sensitivity, it is best to stay away from certain foods like:

  • Chilly ice cream
  • Hot and spicy cuisine
  • Delicate citrus fruits
  • Small chunks of chewy bread or buns
  • Meat that is chewy (sliced thin)

Beverages that can loosen braces

When wearing braces, it is best to stay away from certain foods like:

  • Sticky sweets
  • Jellybeans and taffy are examples of sticky candies.
  • Sweet popcorn
  • Fruits,
  • nut
  • Chopsticks, crackers, or chips
  • Fruits and veggies that are crunchy
  • Pizza dough
  • Hard buns,
  • bagels,
  • Ice
