This Sunday, a new episode of The Walking Dead airs on screens. The long-running zombie drama has been off screens for months but now it’s back on AMC with its midseason premiere.
The eleventh season marks the end of an era for the beloved TV series as it is the final offering that the show will produce. Yes, the eleventh season will be the AMC show’s last, so the cable service has expanded it to a bumper 24 episodes, airing eight of them last year before its lengthy hiatus. The remaining 16 episodes have also been split into groups of eight, with the first installment airing over the next eight weeks, and the second batch returning sometime later this year.
Fans had predicted that the show would come to an end in the foreseeable future after the departure of long-serving leading man Andrew Lincoln resulted in the understandable departure of the show’s protagonist Rick Grimes in season 9. And even though it carried on for a full tenth season without him, the decision was made to have its eleventh season be its last.
The final season also marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the TWD Universe, with new seasons of Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond on the horizon, as well as two new spin-offs – one of which will tell standalone stories set within the TWD Universe and another untitled project that will focus on TWD stars Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon.
You’ll be glad to know that, yes, The Walking Dead will indeed be airing a new episode on AMC tonight. The show is nearing the end of its midseason hiatus, as it returns to TV screens tonight with its long-awaited midseason premiere “No Other Way”.
That said, if you simply can’t wait that long, then you’ll be even happier to know that it has been made available to stream AMC+ from February 13, meaning that you can watch it online now – with a new episode continuing to be added one week before its respective TV air date.
