This flexibility is a major advantage for many consumers, particularly for low-income households, who may lack access to alternative electronic payment options.

In October 2021, average monthly cash payments increased slightly compared to 2019 but remain below pre-pandemic levels. In addition, the number of weekly in-person purchases and P2P payments decreased compared to the previous year.
