The image that springs to mind when most of us think of Egypt is Giza with its impressive pyramids and the Great Sphinx. While these are indeed worthy of a visit to Egypt, they are not the only sites of interest. It is important to know that there are hundreds of temples in Egypt. To go beyond the surface, try floating on top of it. A cruise through the vast reservoir that is Lake Nasser takes you back in time and through some of the most stunning scenery in the world.

The blue of the water is rivaled only by the crystalline skies, and on your journey, you can delve into some of Egypt's most important temples, such as the Dendera Temple Complex.

The Dendera Complex, which is the best preserved in Egypt, sprawls over 40, 000 square meters and is surrounded by a mud brick wall. The complex is associated with pharaoh Pepi I, as well as Nectanebo II, the last of the native pharaohs. Stone reliefs, relics, and structures provide a fascinating glimpse inside pharaonic legacies.

From the Dendera necropolis, for instance, we see that the 12 chambers had crypts, which were used to store icons and vessels. There are wall reliefs which tell of the people and objects contained within the tombs, and in the "Throne Room, " for Ptolemy XII, there are offerings of jewelry to the gods.

You can also visit the Nubian Temples, such as Qsar Ibrim, Dakka, Derr, and Amada. These temples, with the exception of Qasr Ibrim, have been moved from their original sites to aid in preservation, but you will still see reliefs, stone work, and other authentic details that help increase your knowledge and appreciation for Egyptian temples and their creators.
