Bearded dragons are sun loving lizards and need exposure to direct light. Besides a fluorescent light they also need a - uvb light bulbs that will help them to product vitamin D3 which helps them produce calcium to have strong bones. Bearded dragons will roam from direct sunlight or exposure to the UVB lighting to regulate their own body temperature, so always make sure they have somewhere to get away from the light exposure

Another way to provide the proper lighting for your beardie is to take him/her outdoors for short periods of time into direct sunlight. When you do this, please make sure to also provide them with a hiding place. One source is for providing UVB to help produce calcium and vitamin D3, and the other source is to keep your beardie warm. The light you use to keep them warm is a direct lamp above the cage on one end - basking lamp.

Providing the proper amount of UV to your reptiles is vital for their health. In their natural environment lizards spend a lot of time sunbathing, which provides these essential light rays, but in captivity, it is essential that we provide this for them. Reptiles that receive sufficient UVA are more active, eat more, breed more readily, and display a general sense of well-being.

Just remember there are many ways to provide your bearded dragon with proper exposure to UVB lighting and to provide them with heat. This is an important step in them growing healthy and happy and living for years to come. Many health problems can occur if your reptile is not getting enough UVB due to the lack of vitamin D3.
