-Bangladesh Depot Fire That Killed 41 Brought Under Control

Authorities have not determined the cause of the disaster but suspect a container of hydrogen peroxide was the source.
Dhaka: Firefighters in Bangladesh brought a blaze at a container depot under control on Tuesday, three days after fiery explosions killed at least 41 people at a facility that a senior fire service official suspected had not followed safety guidelines.
Drone footage showed smoke and rows of burnt-out containers from the fire that began late on Saturday, triggering blasts and blazes at Sitakunda, 40 km (25 miles) from the southeastern port city of Chittagong.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the disaster but suspect a container of hydrogen peroxide was the source.

"The fire has not been put out completely but there is no risk of further explosion as our team has sorted out the chemical containers .. one by one," senior fire service official Monir Hossain told Reuters from the scene.

"We haven't found any basic fire safety measures ... There were simply some extinguishers. Nothing else. They didn't follow storage guidelines for hazardous chemicals."

The director of the facility, the BM Container Depot, did not answer calls to his mobile telephone seeking comment.

Ruhul Amin Sikder, secretary of the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association said on Monday its members, including BM Container Depot, regularly handled hydrogen peroxide without any incident and as far as he knew, the company followed guidelines.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said an investigation had been launched and those responsible would face justice.
Bangladesh has grown quickly over recent decades to become the world's second-biggest exporter of garments but its industrial safety standards have not kept pace with its economic development and fires are common in factories and other places of work.

The confirmed toll was revised down to 41 from 49 because of some double counting of victims, police said. At least nine firefighters were among the dead and three were missing, they said.

Chittagong's chief doctor, Mohammed Elias Hossain, said some of the injured were in critical condition. Of the 200 or so injured, 50 were rescue officials, police said.

Troops were deployed to try to prevent the spread of chemicals into canals and along the nearby coast, officials said.

The last major fire in Bangladesh was in July last year when 54 people were killed at a food processing factory outside the capital, Dhaka.
Bangladesh's deadliest fire was in 2012, when a blaze swept through a garment factory killing 112 workers.

-UK's PM Boris Johnson Presses On Despite Rebellion In Own Party
The beleaguered leader has claimed that Monday evening's dramatic ballot was a "decisive result".

London: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson convened his cabinet on Tuesday, vowing to "get on with the job" after surviving a confidence vote of Conservative MPs that has left him severely weakened.
The beleaguered leader has claimed that Monday evening's dramatic ballot, which saw 211 Tory party lawmakers support him remaining prime minister but 148 vote against, was a "decisive result".

But most critics and commentators disagreed, arguing his authority has been hugely undermined and his days in Downing Street are numbered.

The Times called him "a wounded victor" while his former employers at the Daily Telegraph branded it "a hollow victory that tears Tories apart".

The vote -- just over two years after the Brexit architect won a landslide general election victory -- was brought after a string of scandals that have left the Conservative party's standing in tatters.

Chief among them was the "Partygate" controversy over lockdown-breaking events at Downing Street, which caused public outrage and saw him become the first serving UK prime minister to have broken the law.

'Continue delivering'

Johnson, 57, needed the backing of 180 of the 359 Conservatives MPs to survive the vote. Defeat would have meant the end to his time as party leader and prime minister.

Most of Johnson's cabinet publicly backed him in the secret ballot, but more than 40 percent of the parliamentary party -- and almost certainly a majority of backbenchers -- did not, with the rebels coming from various Tory factions.

Under current party rules he cannot be challenged again for a year, which leaves little time for any new leader to emerge before the next general election due by 2024.

In previous Tory confidence ballots, Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May scored better than Johnson yet despite narrowly winning their votes, both ultimately resigned after deciding that their premierships were terminally damaged.

Johnson has steadfastly refused to resign over "Partygate" and shows no sign of doing so now.

"Today, I pledge to continue delivering," Johnson said before the cabinet meeting.

"We are on the side of hard-working British people, and we are going to get on with the job."

Johnson has spent months fighting for his political survival after a series of controversies culminated in the "Partygate" saga.

Various opinion polls have shown the public think he lied about the scandal and should resign.

His Tories have lost several once-safe seats in by-elections and scored dismally in recent local elections.

They are expected to lose two upcoming by-elections later this month, including one in a previously rock-solid Conservative constituency.

Johnson was booed last Friday by sections of an ardently patriotic crowd gathered outside St Paul's Cathedral before a religious service for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

Rival parties sought to capitalise on Monday's vote. The smaller opposition Liberal Democrats urged rebels to resign from their party and sit as independents while Johnson remained leader.

However, Conservative MPs who voted against him were highly unlikely to take up the suggestion and appeared to be biding their time.

"This is far from a conclusive result -- it's not a defeat, but it's not a win," said Tory lawmaker Tobias Ellwood, who has been calling for Johnson to resign since February.

He said he accepted Monday's result "for the moment".

'Honourable exit'

Johnson wants to move on with a series of speeches, policy announcements and high-profile appearances on the world stage this month.

That includes plans for a joint speech with finance minister Rishi Sunak to tackle a worsening cost-of-living crisis.

He is expected to head to Rwanda for a meeting of Commonwealth leaders, then go to Germany and Spain for G7 and NATO summits.

Speculation is also mounting that he may reshuffle his senior ministerial team to reward those who backed him.

But many question if he can recover his authority and voters' trust.

Conservative grandee William Hague -- a former party leader -- argued he should "look for an honourable exit".

"Words have been said that cannot be retracted, reports published that cannot be erased, and votes have been cast that show a greater level of rejection than any Tory leader has ever endured and survived," he wrote in The Times.

"Deep inside, he should recognise that, and turn his mind to getting out in a way that spares party and country such agonies and uncertainties."

-Man "Got Mad At His Girl" And Destroyed $5 Million Worth of Art In US Museum
Dallas police informed that they have arrested Brian Hernandez. The initial estimate of the damage he caused is around $5,153,000.
A 21-year-old man broke into the Dallas Museum of Art in the United States on Wednesday and caused more than $5 million in damage to artefacts and other property after getting into a fight with his girlfriend.
According to the Independent, Dallas police informed that they have arrested Brian Hernandez. They said that the 21-year-old allegedly smashed through the museum's glass door with a metal chair on Wednesday night. He then used a stool to smash two display cases and damage several pieces of ancient art, including two pots estimated at $5 million in value.

Mr Hernandez told the cops that he wrecked the museum because he was “mad at his girlfriend”. He reportedly destroyed 2,500-year-old Greek artefacts. He also destroyed a contemporary Native American piece of art valued at $10,000 and a Greek cup from around 540BCE valued at $100,000. Moreover, he allegedly destroyed a telephone, a computer and a bench inside the museum.

As per the Independent, the initial estimate of the damage he caused is around $5,153,000. However, the Dallas Museum of Art's director, Augustine Arteaga, said that he was working with insurers in order to determine the damage, noting that the final estimate could be lower than the initial $5 million number.

The police report stated that the security guards caught up with Mr Hernandez on the museum's main floor. They were alerted to his presence when a motion detector alarm went off. When asked what he was doing in the museum, the 21-year-old said that he got mad at his girlfriend so he broke in and started destroying property.

CNN reported that no one was harmed during the incident. The museum too opened the next day, though the areas where Mr Hernandez allegedly caused damage were blocked off to allow the investigation to continue unhindered.

-US Woman Gives Birth To Identical Twins 3 Days Apart, Doctors Say "Very Uncommon": Report
Carmen Martinez, in a rare occurrence, gave birth to rare identical twin daughters three days apart. The babies were born are Gabby and Bella.
US Woman Gives Birth To Identical Twins 3 Days Apart, Doctors Say 'Very Uncommon': Report
Woman gave birth to rare identical twins in Abilene, Texas.

In a rare occurrence, a woman gave birth to rare identical twin daughters three days apart.
Carmen Martinez, who is now a mother of three, gave birth to Gabriella (Gabby) Grace Hernandez on March 7 and Isabella Rose Hernandez on March 10 at the Hendrick Health facility in Abilene, Texas, a city in Taylor County, according to a report in Fox News.

"Gabby was the first one born at 24 weeks and four days, and Bella was born at exactly 25 weeks," Ms Martinez was quoted as saying by the outlet.

A week before the babies were delivered, Ms Martinez began to show signs of early labour. She was advised to postpone the delivery of her second child for a few days in order to give them more time to develop and to improve her chances of survival.

"My doctors checked everything, and they were still there fine. There wasn't any kind of distress or anything. But they had their own separate placenta and their own separate sac, and it was just for Baby A that it ruptured and not Baby B," Ms Martinez further said.

She continued in labour without pain medication, closely observed, and was given magnesium, which may help to slow or stop labour contractions, the Fox News report said. "I held Gabby in for a week before I delivered her naturally," Ms Martinez said.

The turning of events shocked Ms Martinez and her family. "We didn't call anybody immediately because we didn't know what was going to happen," she said.

"When we finally called our immediate family and sent a picture of Gabby, everybody was scared because all they saw was a picture of one baby - and they didn't know what to ask," Ms Martinez added.

When her family came to know that the second child's delivery is still in progress, they were afraid while Ms Martinez was able to felt the baby's movement while resting on hospital's bed.
