A Course in Miracles For Dummies Workbook Pdf

While ACIM is not a theological system, it is highly spiritual and deals with universal spiritual themes. It is also written at a fairly high intellectual level with sophisticated metaphysical, theological acim and psychological concepts.

The Course's Introduction states that it is "a curriculum designed to teach you how to recognize your own inner teacher." It is therefore deeply individualized.
What is A Course in Miracles?

The Course in Miracles, or ACIM as it is commonly known, is a self-study spiritual thought system with profound teachings that combine spiritual inspiration with far-reaching psychological insights. First published in 1976, this three volume set has already touched millions of lives, and continues to influence the spiritual landscape today.

The material in A Course in Miracles is designed as a curriculum and consists of a Text, which lays out the concepts that form its thought system; a Workbook for Students, containing 365 daily lessons that emphasize experience over belief in a specific theology; and a Manual for Teachers, which answers frequently asked questions. While the Course uses Christian terminology, it is ecumenical in nature and states that “a universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible, but necessary.”

While A Course in Miracles can be read by anyone, it is intended to be studied on an intellectual level, with sophisticated metaphysical, theological, and psychological concepts integrated into its three books and written mostly in blank verse. In this way it is sometimes compared to some of the world’s great literature, although even people who are not intellectually inclined can receive much benefit from its teachings.

This book, part of the Understanding A Course in Miracles series, focuses on the daily Workbook lessons for students and includes an explanation of the original ACIM Text as well as each of the 365 Workbook Lessons with questions and answers to help readers understand the material better. It also replaces unclear references and pronouns with their correct antecedents, as many study groups do to make the material easier to follow. It is an excellent companion to the Daily Lesson Insights and many readers will find that it helps them to move forward with their practice of A Course in Miracles.
What is the Text?

A Course in Miracles is a spiritual teaching that is widely regarded as being the modern day bible for forgiveness. It was brought into this world by Helen Schucman in close cooperation with William Thetford over the course of 7 years and was first published June 22nd, 1976. The text consists of 365 daily lessons and is considered by its teachers to be a universal one for all people. It is not a religion but teaches that love and forgiveness are your natural inheritance.

The Course uses metaphors and often has contradictory passages that seem to be at odds with each other. Nevertheless, its loving message of forgiveness aims to remove the blocks that currently stand between you and the awareness of love’s presence in your life.

In order to help make the lessons in the Workbook more comprehensible the original text was decoded and simplified. The ACIM for Dummies text replaces pronouns and unclear references with their antecedents thus making it more user-friendly. It also makes the lesson names more descriptive and easier to remember so that they are more easily incorporated into your daily life.

This book is a companion to the Understanding A Course in Miracles series and covers the ACIM text of chapters 1 through 31. Due to publishing size limitations this book is sold in paperback as two separate volumes: Volume I covers ACIM Text Chapters #1-15 and Volume II covers ACIM Text Chapters #16-31.

While it uses Christian terminology and refers to God as “Heaven” and Jesus as the “Redeemer,” the Course is ecumenical in its view of religions and states that there are many paths to God (M.1.4). In fact, it claims to be just one of thousands of forms of the same universal course.

If you have struggled to read and understand ACIM, the workbook or the Manual for Teachers this is a book that can offer you new insight and clarity. This is a guide that can help you to move past the barriers of fear and resistance that are keeping you from recognizing the love and grace that are your natural inheritance.
What is the Workbook?

Most ACIM students fail to complete the 365 daily workbook lessons that accompany the Course’s text. These are designed to bypass the ego’s resistance and open your heart to the Course’s message of universal love. This series removes the mystery by explaining and demystifying the esoteric Workbook Lessons in “Dummies” format.

This is not a course about the Course’s underlying thought system, though it may touch upon some of its intellectually sophisticated aspects. This is a course about the practical application of the principles it teaches to your daily life, which is why the Workbook lessons are so important.

Workbooks are collections of worksheets which allow you to add and delete sheets, move them around within the collection, or iterate through them in sequence. Each sheet is divided into rows and columns, forming a matrix of cells into which you can enter data or formulas. The active worksheet is highlighted with a rectangular border, and you can change the active worksheet by using arrow keys or mouse clicks. You can also set a theme for the entire workbook, specifying colors, fonts and other visual effects for all of the sheets in it. See the Create a Worksheet article for more information about creating and using worksheets in a workbook.

The workbook’s Introduction states that a student must first spend some time studying the Course’s text in order to understand the Workbook lessons. This helps to establish the theoretical framework that makes them meaningful. It further states that a student need not believe the ideas in the Workbook lessons or even accept them, but must simply be willing to apply them. If the student refuses to do this, they should not expect that the Workbook lessons will make much sense or have any effect upon their lives. If a student decides to read the Introduction, they are advised to reread it periodically as their understanding of the Lessons grows. This way, they will be sure that the concepts are truly understood and applied to their daily lives. This will ensure that the lessons will be of lasting value in their lives.
What is the Manual for Teachers?

The Manual for Teachers, also known as the supplementary book to A Course in Miracles, is Book 3 of the ACIM series and contains questions and answers concerning the principles found in the Text and Workbook. It is essentially a summary of the Course in Question-and-Answer form, and answers some of the more likely questions that a student may have as he or she studies it.

It is not recommended to read the Manual for Teachers without first reading the Text and then studying the Workbook lessons. The purpose of the Manual is to help a student choose whether to follow the path laid out by the Course in its entirety, or to take a more limited and selective approach to it, according to his or her level of readiness.

This is a very important point, as ACIM is not a “one size fits all” approach to spirituality. It is very personalized and focuses on healing the individual through forgiveness of self and others. It is a highly academic thought system that combines spiritual inspiration with deep psychological understanding of such phenomena as belief and defense systems, perception and identity.

The Course’s esoteric language makes it a challenging read for most, and the Workbook’s lessons require a substantial commitment to practice. Many students struggle for years without success to understand the principles of this unique and powerful Course, while others become so overwhelmed by its challenge that they give up.

Nevertheless, the Course is a universally applicable message of forgiveness and love that has captured the minds and hearts of millions around the world and delivered inner peace where fear and pain once prevailed. This self-study spiritual-thought system has been compared to other works of great literature, including the Bible and the Tao Te Ching.

This new ACIM for Dummies series cuts through the mystery of this mystical book and makes its timeless message of freedom, joy and unconditional love accessible to anyone willing to make the choice. The ACIM for Dummies series consists of two books: Understanding A Course in Miracles Text, which covers ACIM Text chapters #1-15; and Understanding A Course in Miracles Workbook Lessons, which covers the 365 daily Workbook lessons (the number representing one year of study). This is a companion to our earlier book: A Course in Miracles for Dummies, Vol II.
