While it is based on Christian teachings, it does not claim to be the only way to God. It does not have an organized church or any hierarchy, and it does not require adherence to any specific beliefs.

The Course is written on a very intellectual level, with sophisticated metaphysical, theological, and psychological concepts integrated into its teaching. Because of this, a person who is not intellectually inclined might have difficulty with some aspects of the book. However, this should not deter a person from exploring it as a spiritual path. The Course is meant to be read and studied, not merely meditated upon. It provides a theoretical foundation for doing the 365 exercises in its Workbook. But it is the doing of these exercises that will make the course meaningful and transformational.

While the Course is primarily taught through reading and practicing the lessons, it also teaches that teachers are needed to help students understand the material. The Manual for Teachers was therefore created to serve as an aid in the teacher/pupil relationship. It discusses the nature of the role, explains how the student and teacher are related, and answers frequently asked questions about the Course.

The Song of Prayer

This book is the first volume in the series of books called "The Plain Language Course in Miracles." It brings the loving message of A Course in Miracles into clear, easy-to-understand terms. It will help you learn how to use the Course in your daily life, undoing your beliefs about separation from God and returning to your natural state of boundless love, peace and joy.

This short booklet discusses forgiveness and healing, as well as the nature of the spiritual path. It is a "Supplement" to the Text of A Course in Miracles and is found inside of the back of the 3rd edition only.

The ego's perception of life is a false one. This distorted view is what leads to guilt and fear. The world the ego perceives is a reflection of the beliefs it holds about itself and its relationship to God. Reality, however, is composed of the thoughts of God, which reflect peace, love and abundance. This is the truth of the world that the ego cannot see and only the Holy Spirit knows.

Rogier van Vlisingen is a professor of philosophy and religion. He has studied and practiced A Course in Miracles for over thirty years. He is an expert in the fields of metaphysics and meditation. He has written extensively on both subjects and is also a singer-songwriter.

Although ACIM uses Christian symbols, it is not a form of Christianity and does not teach worship of Jesus Christ. It is an ecumenical spiritual teaching that draws from many other religious traditions as well as Eastern mysticism, perennial philosophy, and modern psychology. Despite this, it has received criticism from some Christian writers and has been considered controversial by some.
The Psychotherapy Booklet

The first of three additional pamphlets Helen Schucman “scribed” after she finished taking down A Course in Miracles (the other two were the Song of Prayer and this one) focuses on healing and forgiveness in the context of psychotherapy. Many students of the Course who are not psychologists have found this workshop especially helpful in understanding how the Course teaches that forgiveness is the only way to enter the real world and find peace.

Forgiveness and Jesus
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick explore some of the more common misunderstandings that can be triggered by the Christian context of A Course in Miracles and its focus on Jesus. They demonstrate how to separate the ego’s interpretation of Jesus from the true teachings of the Course, and then show how to correct the misunderstandings through forgiveness.

While a major part of the curriculum of A Course in Miracles is contained within its text and workbooks, it is also supported by extensive commentary and explanation from its originating authors. These include the scribes, Helen Schucman and William Thetford, as well as the teachers of A Course in Miracles who have been its primary interpreters. These materials are compiled in this book so that the reader can have all of the supporting material available to him or her, as well as a clear understanding of A Course in Miracles and its teachings.

In addition to the commentary and explanation from the originating authors, this book contains answers to questions frequently asked by students of the Course, as well as a glossary to clarify some of the vocabulary used in the text.
