First, take a breath and don't stress too much, there are a lot of possibilities between the key being broken. From the lock being rusty, to the key being the one that is very old, from the key being made out of a very cheap material, to the simple fact that you had a bad day and had to live through it. Now it only remains to solve it with a few little tricks or with the help of a real professional.

Tricks to remove a broken key

Pliers

In case you trust your neighbor, or you are really desperate enough to ask for a favor, ask them to lend you a couple of tools. First of all, a pair of pliers.

In case the key has turned slightly outwards, even though it cannot be pulled out by the human hand, you will grab it with the smallest pliers and pull it out very carefully and precisely trying not to pull it back in.

Scissors

Again you bother your neighbor but this time to ask for a scissors, and we know you are asking yourself, why a scissors? Well easy, one of the tips must be introduced through one of the sides of the lock to locate the key, and after that move it out. Although this only works with a specific type of lock and can slightly damage it, so do it carefully if you don't want to end up calling a locksmith to take the key out and fix your lock.

 Metal clip

This you may have in your car or probably on something at work if you are coming from there, the process is similar to the scissors, and much easier because it goes easily through the lock.

In this case, insert the wire already opened by one of the sides of the lock, try to hook the key and pull strongly to solve the problem. It may help to smear a little oil on the hook to make the process easier.

Call a locksmith

In case you are tired of trying homemade tricks or you want to take care of the integrity of your lock from the beginning, the best option is always to call a locksmith specialized in these cases to help you and in any case, get a new copy of your keys if you don't have one.

In addition, you can take advantage of the checkup to determine what was the main problem that led to the key breaking: whether it was rust in the lock, rust in the key, or just bad luck.
