Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is AN evidence-based psychotherapy that began with efforts to treat borderline personality disorder (also known as Emotional Instability Disorder). DBT has been proven helpful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and change in behavioral patterns like self-harm, and substance abuse. DBT evolved into the process during which the therapist and client work with acceptance and change-oriented ways, and ultimately balance and synthesize.

This approach is designed to assist people to increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning about the triggers that cause reactive states and helping to assess that coping skills to apply within the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to assist avoid undesired reactions.
